The debate over evolution really came on the national scene in 1925 with the infamous “Scopes Trail“. It was stated by William Jennings Bryan, the lead prosecutor that, “if evolution wins, Christianity goes.” He was right in part. The teaching of evolution is at the center of why we find our nation in the predicament it is in today.
I would like to briefly examine the history of the teaching of evolution within our schools. Forty-three years after the “Scopes Trail” in 1968 ”Epperson v. Arkansas Trail” made it unconstitutional to prohibit the teaching of evolution in public schools. From that point on it became the norm within our public schools. Today, evolution is for all practical purposes the only acceptable explanation for our existence as the “Edwards v. Aguillard Trail” in 1987 and a similar decision in 2005 make very clear.
Just think; in 1925, the battle was to allow evolution to be taught in public schools and today the battle is to have anything but evolution taught in our schools. As a nation we have embraced evolution 100% and that has consequences.
Just read what it says in Romans 1:18 – 25, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” – NASU
Doesn’t that, especially verse 25, exactly describe those who believe in evolution? They believe that “nothing” exploded and then these lifeless atoms somehow came to life and then created through evolution everything we see today including ourselves! If that is not worshiping the creature instead of the creator I don’t know what is.
So what does this have to do with our condition today? Well, YHWH, the God of the Bible, the true creator of the universe told us exactly what would happen to a people who discards Him for foolishness like evolution. In Romans 1:26 – 31 YHWH-God through the apostle Paul says that such a society will be marked with homosexuality, STD’s, depraved minds, unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossip, slander, hate, insolence, arrogance, boastfulness, evil, disobedience, ignorance, distrust and the lack of love and mercy.
And it is not just the United States, last week the United Nations suggested giving “Mother Nature” “human rights”. You think I’m kidding? Follow the link, Debate over rights for Mother Nature.
I truly believe the reason that we as a nation have had so few good leaders in my lifetime is because we as a nation have been worshiping the “idol of chance” lifted up in the religion of evolution. The only real hope for our country is for us to repent of this sin.
The debate between evolution and creationism is a crucial one. I implore you to study it for yourself. Here are some websites and books I recommend: www.answersingenesis.org http://www.drdino.com ”The Evolution of a Creationist” by Jobe Martin, D.M.D. Th.M, “Look what’s Missing” by David W. Daniels, “Signature in the Cell” by Stephen C. Meyer, “Old-Earth, Creationism on Trial” by Tim Chaffey, “Evolution and Human Fossil Footprints” by Aaron Judkins.
Happy Reading and Shalom,

Good point, well made Joe. Remember when they said things that happened were an “Act of God”? No more. Nature is considered the only thing that matters today. There are those who think we humans are so important and in control of everything and the cause of all damage to the earth, but let a tsunami or tornado or earthquake hit and they can see that God is in control, not us. His ways are not our ways.
Another good one Joe. You are right on the money. Nothing has changed though. I read Hosea this morning and the Israelites did the same thing and God had the last word there too.
Very true! I am glad we spend our hard earned money sending our kids to a school where they don’t teach them lies. Sad that most parents don’t take the time to find out what their children are being taught, sometimes they are too busy or just want to make sure their kids have cool friends. Very well said Joe.
Good article/history lesson Joe. One of my favorite topics. I have enjoyed the creation science/evolution sessions my church has put on every first Saturday of the month. Part of an effort that grew from it, is a web link provided at the top of their menu to take questions. http://www.ccwg.org/
